Greetings Good News Partners...
"But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing."
-- Luke 9:11 (NKJV)
It has been many months since I have written and so much has happened since that time. Today I would like to make a personal request on behalf of my wife Brooke and I. First, if you don't know, I had lower lumbar fusion surgery to correct very severe back pain that I have been struggling with since May. Turns out the damage in my lower back was worse than even the diagnostic tools showed prior to surgery. What they did was go in through my stomach, move aside my vital organs, remove all the damaged tissue and then installed a spacer between my L4-L5 vertebrae. The doctor then set cadaver bones with a synthetic bonding agent that will allow for my L4 and L5 to be permanently fused to each other. It will be completely set in 4 to 6 months. I am home recovering and it is hard to tell how much better my back is at this point as I am focused on the surgical incision while it heals. The first 2 weeks of recovery calls for mostly flat bed rest so that the fusion will properly set.
Just when it seemed things were coming along perfectly, we find ourselves directly in the path of Hurricane Ike. The leading edge should be hitting our home within the next 4 hours (7:00pm CDT). It is anticipated that the storm will pass slightly to the west of us and we should experience sustained winds in excess of 80MPH for the better part of 12-15 hours. We will likely sustain some damage and most certainly lose power and water for several days. We did not evacuate to family in the Dallas area because I simply cannot risk a 5 hour car ride given the fragility of my back's recovery from surgery. It is truly a time to trust God. Our lives and safety are exclusively in His hands. My selfish request is that I would ask you to pray for both of us. Please add an extra prayer for Brooke who has sacrificed herself in so many ways by taking personal care of me this past week; I thank God for her. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
Not sure how long we will have access but you can e-mail each of us personally at:
Brooke - firstname.lastname@example.org
Greg - email@example.com
We hope to respond after the storm passes, thanks again.
